[wplug] How is Xserver selection done?

X server selection on a mandrake system is left up to the startx script
(or whatever you use to start X) and the /etc/X11/X link. Now, you can't
just switch that link between Xfree4 and Xfree3, because the
/etc/X11/XF86Config file is different from one version to the
other. Plus, Xfree has a whole host of files that come with it, xterm
xlibs, etc., and they differ between versions.

I gather from your post that you are trying to install something that
'requires' XF3.3.6. That doesn't necessarily mean that it won't work with
XF4, it's just that the package requrements are not working
properly. Unless you are installing a program that uses some DGA
capabilities, most X programs just work between XFree4 and XFree3.
