[NOTE: I sent this to Mike yesterday and he said it was OK to send it on to the list. I hope everyone takes this in the spirit with which it is meant and not as ridicule. --DT]

Mike,

Someone pointed out that my first response mentioning the spell checker may have been taken harshly and I should instead have tried to answer you. So, here goes:

Mike, if you didn't want to do it, you could have used another distribution. There is no reason a person should be resentful of one's OS, unless maybe if it's by MicroSoft and they don't have a choice.

Normally a wen is not much of a problem, except maybe cosmetically. Such encysted tumors consist of fatty tissue and are benign, but if it bothers you, it would be better to go to a physician (probably a dermatologist) to see about having it removed rather than holding emotional
hostilities toward your operating system. I am not aware of any web browser being the cause of them, though if they seem to occur with absolute correspondence to your using one particular brand, then you have tripped across a major medical find.

Or did I misunderstand and you are talking about having a hot-dog when the problem occurs? In which case, I would suggest not trying to eat a wiener
(Oscar-Mayer, Kahn's or some other) or any other food for that matter over your keyboard. The food can drop in between the keys and, by getting under one, could be keeping it from registering. That could be giving you an error, as the commands need to be spelled correctly, but without
a spell checker you might not be noticing it.

As for the bus error, [yes, I know it's OK here, but I couldn't resist] did you remember that since New Years Day is a holiday, the Port Authority follows a different schedule than on normal weekdays. If you check your printed schedule, you should see there is usually also a shorter
holiday timetable on it somewhere. However, if you're riding the T, the Port Authority usually prints up a special schedule which they make available on the cars or in the downtown stations (it's not much help, though, if your waiting at one of the other stops and haven't picked one up
beforehand).

> I can run it as root, but I do not think I sould be surfing the web as root.

This is a little trickier to answer, and, whether or not you are running as root, it sort of depends upon one's religious convictions. If you think your soul is separate from your day to day being, then I guess (interpreting eubonic substitutions of "I" for "my" and "be" for "is")
there could be some reason to feel your soul would not be surfing the web as root whenever you yourself use the browser as such. But if you think of your soul as being the essence of your being, then it seems if you run a program as root, your soul would also. Anyway, I don't think
that running a program as root is so deplorable as to pose a religiously troubling moral dilemma.

Or do I miscomprehend and is it that with all the revelry you can't remember if you allowed someone to surf the web as root in return for money? Or did you try to sell someone on the idea of surfing as root and aren't sure if you convinced them?

> Dose any one else have this problem and dose any one know a fix for it.

You should watch out about trying to give medications to people for such a computer related problem. Irradiating them is also not such a good idea either, and it seems especially problematic to do it just because they might happen to have the answer.

Your welcome. Don't hesitate to ask again.
