Is there somewhere one could get information on using cable modems?  I must 
admit, I'm not too well-versed on their workings.

But, the way I understand this is, if right now, I am using an ethernet 
connection for XXXXX College's network for my connection, over the summer I 
could use a cable connection without having to install a bunch of equipment 
on my box and recompile my kernel?
