Unless we're going to be running an IRC proxy or something equally 
bizarre, I think the easiest way to go about this sort of thing would 
be "a full-fledged IRC client running in a browser." It wouldn't be 
impossible to make it so that it the only possible actions were getting 
a username and going to #wplug, but security concerns are certainly 
relevant.

I guess I'm not opposed to sticking a Java IRC client up on the page, 
although I don't think it'll be used very often. (I would be happy to 
be proven wrong.) The only question from that point on for me, really, 
is whether Henry would be willing to write a Java IRC client that would 
be pretty near neutered.
