Through conventional means, yes, you’re largely right - you can’t do anything to change
government policy. Anyone with a lick of sense knows that the major players from both
parties are bought and paid for.
That’s why you take the initiative to do things on your own. Why, look at this story about
how the FBI gave up trying to crack TrueCrypt:

And consider how government officials are starting to talk about Bitcoin. Why? Because
they fear a monetary supply that they can’t control. They can’t push it to ridiculous levels
of inflation. There’s no way to freeze Bitcoin assets. If you use the Electrum wallet and
memorize the seed phrase, you could very well keep your money “in your head” and
there’s no way anybody would know.
Tough security and plausible deniability can be yours with TrueCrypt and Bitcoin. They’re
free, open source, and 100% legal. All you need to do is be willing to accept them to regain
some control over your personal information. Forget asking; you can /be/ the change.
That’s what this is about.
There’s a new-ish Meetup group[2] for Pittsburgh Bitcoin enthusiasts that meets at the
start of every month, and I’m going to attend their next meeting on July 3rd. Besides
getting to spend some quality time with fellow BTC fans, I’d like to see if any of their
members would be interested in helping to make a presentation on Bitcoin.

I think I am completely helpless to do anything about Government policy and practice. I
just hope that when I am accused of being a Christian, that there is enough evidence to
convict me.
In the mean time, I crawl under my rock and ignore the news as best I can.
