I have had good luck with remote installs from the livecd. I'm willing to help someone do an ubuntu install over the net.

Howto:

Have them download the livecd from ubuntu.com.
have them ssh to your box using a the command line option to setup a tunnel 5900 on the livecd.
use vnc to access the remote desktop on the livecd.
talk to the user about linux :)

Hmm, that gives me an idea - anyone have experience with KDE 4.x
and want to demo it? Supposedly 4.1 final will be out tomorrow
<http://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-4.1-rc1.php>.

(If there's a download-and-go distro, I can try getting up to
speed on it myself, but there's basically zero chance of me
successfully compiling it from source...)
