[wplug-plan] web page issues

For quite some time, there has been discussion about moving the
web site off of OpenACS and onto a more reasonable CMS. Among
other features, this would give us wiki functionality and improved
calendaring - tools that would have a real positive impact on our
ability to coordinate action. It is my understanding that this
task is currently in the hands of the Internet Committee for
implementation.

In my mind, setting up the foundation of this system is the
critical roadblock at this point. If it were made clear what the
needs are, we might get people with the right skills to help out.
I'm willing to give whatever assistance I can to the Internet
Committee, but setting up servers is not my strong suit.

Once this is set up, I can see that developing a new look for the
site may be a desirable thing. And that a design contest with
prizes sounds like a good way to do it. But to my way of thinking,
the more important step at this point is to put the foundation in
place before worrying about what color to paint the kitchen. It
would look pretty bad if we had someone create a beautiful design
and the web site wasn't ready to have it applied.
