At the perl conference, setting up was part of your 5 minutes. It is more 
of a talk to the audience than a show an tell. There was a overhead 
projector for those old fashion clear slides as well as a cable to connect 
monitor out(I think).
I think of them as more like an 'elevator speech'[1] than a full demo.

[1] An elevator speech is one that you can give in the time it takes an 
elevator to get to the floor requested. Usually these are given by someone 
starting a business to a Venture Capitalist. The idea is you have to 
convince him that your idea is interesting while you have him as a captive 
audience. If things go well, then you continue the talk in his office.
