Hello,

You are receiving this email because you pre-registered to become a
member
of Western PA Linux User Group (aka WPLUG). Until now, approving pre-
registered members has been pending the ratification of bylaw
amendments that define members and their powers. We would like to
thank you for your patience and for pre-registering.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< The quick scoop >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

* If we do not hear from you otherwise, the board will accept you as a

* If you do not wish to be a member of WPLUG, contact the Secretary,
Mark
Dalrymple, at wplug at borkware.com, and you will be removed from the

* If you do wish to be a member and your contact information has changed
since then, please fill out a new form with your current contact

* Periodically, the board of WPLUG will post official communication

If you desire more information on the membership and the new bylaws
please read on...

The next step is for the current board to approve the pre-registered
members as full members of WPLUG. The current board consists of two
directors: Beth Lynn Eicher (Chair) and Mark Dalrymple (Secretary). We,
the board of WPLUG, plan to accept all of the pre-registered members who
did not opt-out at our next board meeting on September 22, 2005.
Board meeting agenda along with exact time and place will be posted to
this list. All who are pre-registered members will be welcome but not
required to attend.

The bylaws have been ratified and they are now posted to the website
http://www.wplug.org/pages/bylaws

If you wish to understand what WPLUG membership means, you are
encouraged
to read the bylaws, in particular the purpose section
http://www.wplug.org/pages/bylaws#2
and the membership section
http://www.wplug.org/pages/bylaws#3
and the membership meetings section
http://www.wplug.org/pages/bylaws#5

After we have approved the membership list, we will proceed with a
nominations meeting at the General Users Meeting, October 15, 2005
10am-2pm Carnegie Mellon University, Newell Simon Hall 1507. This
will be to finalize all of those who wish to be listed as director
candidates for the new board. Finally we will elect a new board at
the November General Users Meeting, date and venue are to be determined.
After the election of the new board, the new government of WPLUG come
into full effect. This means that you will be eligible to run for a
board
position and vote in the election for the new board.

This may seen like a lot of politics but we are taking care to use
proper
procedure to reform WPLUG as a member-owned organization rather than its
previous state of a board-owned organization. Please be assured that
purpose of calling people "members" is to improve democracy within
WPLUG. It is not meant to keep anybody out. In fact WPLUG events have
always been open to the general public and no one has any intention
of changing that. If anything we hope that more people will get
involved with the business of running WPLUG than before.

Again, we would like to thank you for pre-registering for membership of
WPLUG. Please feel free to post any questions regarding the
government of
WPLUG to the planning list wplug-plan at wplug.org

Thank You,

The Board of WPLUG
Beth Lynn Eicher (Chair) and Mark Dalrymple (Secretary)
