<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">Leading satellite-based asset tracking and data communication company providing services to US military and commercial customers worldwide is searching for a Unix Systems Engineer Duration: </FONT></P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">4.5 Months Temp to Perm </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">Location: Germantown, MD Salary: </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">$75k-80k range </FONT>
</P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">Position: Systems Engineer, UNIX </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">Scope: System management & administration support consisted of proprietary and COTS hardware and software networked via global terrestrial and RF/satellite communications equipment in support of 7x24 operation. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">Complexity: The Systems Administrator will work exclusively with FBCB2/CECOM business partners and information technology professionals (to include third party support contractors) in the following areas: </FONT></P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Responsible for (minimum of) 99.95% system uptime. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Perform real-time system monitoring, traffic tracking, and trend analysis using proprietary & non-proprietary tools. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Provide technical leadership to the NOC support staff in troubleshooting problems and address network outages. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Research and identify system and security patches and perform system upgrades/patches in accordance with Army/DOD IT security standards. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Installing and configure FreeBSD/Linux on Intel platforms, and conduct performance tuning. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Applying patches to production systems, as required. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Review, and update backup and recovery of production systems using standard UNIX tools </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Review, update, and test site disaster recovery plan to meet corporate standards. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Performing application and system software upgrades and operating system upgrades </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Write Shell/Perl scripts to automate daily and operational activities </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Lead and/or support Network Operations in troubleshooting network outages </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Compiling common applications and system software from source </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Securing operating systems to Army/DoD IT security standards </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Working closely with Network Control Center on escalated operational issues </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·System monitoring and management which performance monitoring and reporting via proprietary and standard COTS tools </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Perform & Maintain Configuration Management. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Create & update Sys. Admin. Manual. ·Train staff, as required. </FONT>
</P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">The Systems Administrator may be required to present information to high level government and commercial decision makers via briefings, telephone conferences and written correspondence. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">The successful candidate must have significant experience working in a team environment and possess the following skills: </FONT></P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">Prior military or DoD experience with active or interim Secret Clearance is highly desired. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·BA/BS in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·4-6 years of proven experience with UNIX operating systems FreeBSD, Linux experience preferred. Relevant certification is a plus. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Experience with open-source software. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Experience in LAN/WAN (TCP/IP) networking environment. Cisco experience preferred. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Working knowledge of standard UNIX backup and recovery tools. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Working knowledge of UNIX security methodologies and best practices. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Prior experience with a satellite telecommunications provider a must. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Must have excellent problem solving and analytical skills, including ability to read and interpret technical documents, operating/ maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Must have excellent verbal and written skills and able to perform multiple tasks. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Pager duty is part of the job. After-hour and weekend support, as required. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">·Ability to lift and/or move servers and networking equipment FreeBSD, Sun O/S, HP-UX, AIX What’s up Gold, MRTG, HP OpenView Cisco , Juniper, Foundry </FONT></P>
