Hiring Range 	$42,840.00 - $70,308.00

This position is responsible for effective installation/configuration, 
operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related 
high performance computing infrastructure at the Department of 
Computational & Systems Biology, School of Medicine, University of 
Pittsburgh.

The individual will provide primary technical support for the 
Department’s computing resources, in addition to participating in 
technical research and development to enable continuing innovation 
within the infrastructure.

In addition, this position will be responsible for the administration of 
several Beowulf clusters running Linux; provide system and application 
support to scientists, researchers, and graduate students; implement the 
design and architecture of the high performance environment working with 
a committee; and assist faculty members with technical issues in the 
initiation and planning phases of their research projects.

Requirements include: experience configuring and maintaining the Linux 
operating system to provide a high-performance environment through 
clusters and workstations; experience with Linux to configure private 
networks; expertise in UNIX scripting languages such as BASH, PERL, 
and/or Python, experience with configuration of applications related to 
parallel computing such as MPI, MPICH2, LAM and with queuing software 
such as GridEngine, OpenPBS, or LSF; experience building and configuring 
open source and commercial software through makefiles and rpm; basic 
knowledge of C and Fortran programming languages; knowledge of version 
control systems such as Subversion; experience installing/maintaining 
third party software and license management through flexLM; knowledge of 
SSH, rsync, TCP/IP, iptables filtering; experience in technical writing 
and documentation. System Administrator/Analyst with degree(s) in 
Computer Science, Engineering or relevant technical areas preferred.

Other desirable, but not required qualifications are: experience 
administering systems in an academic or research environment; experience 
with VMware vSphere; knowledge of C++ and Java; database (MySQL) use, 
design and administration; experience working with Infiniband networks 
and OFED stack, multi-terabyte file systems (XFS).
