Linux Systems Administrator - (Mid-Level)

 

Organization

 

Our client is a mid-sized IT organization with 400+ people, of which
140+ people are in the IT field. They have an enterprise-size
infrastructure which includes 175 total Unix boxes, Linux RHEL 4.x & 5.x
and Solaris 9.x & 10.x. 60% of the Unix boxes are virtualized via
VMware. There are 2 systems administration groups; an operations systems
administration group and an application & web administration group. This
position is in the operations systems administration group.

 

- Long-standing 10+ year stable TEKsystems relationship with client.

- Technology-driven organization with 140+ employees working in IT.

- Metro-Accessible in Washington, DC.

- When full-time, 30+ PTO, tuition reimbursement, & matching 403B.

- When full-time, salary of $70K-$85K depending upon experience.

 

Duties

 

Serve as resource on the Unix and Webserver ticketing queues. Provide
key role in monitoring of Unix and Linux platforms. Support procedural
and systems modifications to infrastructure services and systems
designed to improve systems availability and overall efficiency. Serve
as a technical systems administration resource for Websphere, Tomcat,
PHP/Apache and CoreMedia (Java) server platforms. Responsible for
infrastructure upgrade and modernization projects intended to continue
support, maintain availability and improve performance on Unix and Linux
systems. Participate in the automation of routine tasks in the Unix and
Linux areas.

 

Qualifications

 

- Linux RHEL 4.x & 5.x (2-5 Years)

- Solaris 9.x & 10.x (2-5 Years)

- Perl Scripting

- ITIL Processes or ITIL-like structure

- Bachelors Degree in IT-related-field (Required.)

- Web Application Support (This would be a plus.)

- Oracle 10g (This would be a plus.)

 

Other skills include: DNS/BIND, SENDMAIL, HTTP / Apache, SSH, FTP, SMTP
/ Sendmail, SNMP/ NetSNMP, KERBEROS+AD, NIS, NFS, SnapRestore, TCP/IP,
Microsoft Office, Visio.

 

General Information

 

Hours are first shift. Duration is a 6+ month right-to-hire contract.
The location is Washington, DC. The screening process is as follows: (1)
meet a TEKsystems recruiter, (2) two technical references, (3) Unix
Assessment, and (4) personal-interview with client.
