The Systems Administrator position is highly technical in nature.  Systems
duties are performed on a variety of systems with a primary focus on Unix
operating systems. General systems administration responsibilities include
installation, configuration, operations and maintenance of networked servers
and enterprise software, systems diagnostics and troubleshooting including
analysis of ongoing performance, capacity planning, and system/network
interaction. In addition, the Systems Administrator responds to security
issues including authentication, authorization and secure access.  I

SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR



The Systems Administrator reports to the Manager, Systems Administration.
The Systems Administrator works as a member of a team that includes other
systems personnel and frequently collaborates with other CTS teams and
project stakeholders.  The Systems Administration team is part of the team
responsible for providing and maintaining the University's enterprise
infrastructure environments.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
.    Performs server (standalone and cluster) design, installations,
maintenance and upgrades for Solaris 9/10  
.    Maintains required systems security on all centralized Unix and
systems, which includes enabling and reviewing of audit trails, system logs,
enhanced security setup and maintenance, access controls, and file
protections and ownership.
.    Supports all Unix servers and related hardware, including blade server
technology.
.    Creates user and group accounts for systems and applications as
assigned; grants access to data and other resources as assigned.
.    Works with hardware and software technical support service
organizations as required solving problems or gathering information.
.    Evaluates new products and technologies to determine impact on existing
systems infrastructure.
.    Shares technical and functional expertise, in both written and verbal
format, with other members of the team as required; works within a team
environment and in a professional manner.
.    Leads or participates in systems design and systems implementation
supporting large enterprise-wide projects.
.    Project planning assistance developing project plans for the
implementation of technology and systems.
.    Takes the lead on mission-critical outages and/or related issues.
.    Maintains excellent communication with CTS management on all tasks and
projects.
.    Participates in the Systems Administration team on-call support on a
rotating schedule.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


.    A Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or MIS/IT.
.    Experience in administration of systems in a high-availability
enterprise environment comprised primarily Sun Solaris.
.    Experience with Systems Administration in a virtualized server
environment Sun Solaris logical domains.
.    Practical experience in systems security including an understanding of
audit systems, enhanced systems security, and network security issues.
.    Excellent analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail
required. 
.    Excellent written/verbal communication and technical writing skills
required.
.    Proficient in leading implementation efforts for assigned projects
using advanced communication and project management skills.


OTHER PREFERRED

.    Experience in systems configuration and performance tuning.
.    Experience in Unix  systems patch management administration.
.    Experience writing and maintaining bash and Perl scripts.
.    Working knowledge of firewall, load balancer and SSL compression
technologies.
.    Knowledge of Dell <http://www.dell.com/>  and Sun server hardware.
.    Familiarity with network and systems security scanning and auditing
tools.
.    Familiarity with MS SQL Server and MS SharePoint.
.    Familiarity with Identity Management solutions.
.    Sun certifications a plus.
