Position Qualifications:
Education:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent education in a related discipline is required.
- Related work experience can be substituted for educational requirement.
Responsibilities:
- Work within a small IT team in all daily unix/network/planning activities of a 100+ unix server, multi-site LAN/WAN
- Support a mix of Production, administrative, customer service, and development users and business needs
- Specify, acquire, install, configure and document new unix hardware, software and network environments
- Work with business and development teams to define requirements and timelines for new configurations and installations
- Provide 24x7 on-call support for Production Internet e-commerce web sites
- Evaluates new systems software and hardware, and recommend/design technical solutions
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job-related Experience:
- Requires five years systems administration or related experience.
- Unix administration – multi-vendor support in multiple development and production environments – Sun & Redhat Linux, Kernel tuning, application management, system and application level troubleshooting. Proficient in using tools such as strace, truss, netstat, and tcpdump to troubleshoot system issues.
- Application Administration Experience – WebSphere, Sendmail, DNS, Apache, Cold Fusion, Solaris Clustering a plus.
- Scripting and programming – PERL and shell scripting
- Information Security awareness – Advanced skills in System security surrounding Internet facing Web based applications (Unix, Apache, etc.), and Unix system hardening.
- Excellent communication skills, to interface with technical, product development and customer groups
- Strong project management and documentation skills.
Functional Area Skills/Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of systems (i.e. program design, flowcharting, coding, testing, debugging, etc).
- Excellent knowledge of how the pieces of a program fit together for the purpose of meeting the requirements of an application.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the relationship of how the software being used relates to the hardware being used.
- Strong knowledge of how to interact with external, as well as, internal clients for the purpose of data gathering and design initiation.
- Possesses extensive knowledge of a distinct skill or function and a thorough understanding of the organization and work environment.
- Work is somewhat complex and requires moderate analytical ability.
- Acts as in a senior or lead capacity by assigning and reviewing the work of others.
Decision Making/Problem Solving:
- Applies existing guidelines and procedures to make varied decisions within a department.
- Uses sound judgment and experience to solve moderately complex problems.
- Uses some independent judgment to identify problems and recommend solutions.
Resources Managed:
- Provides some supportive advice with limited impact on the use of resources.
- Impact on resources is limited to assigned department.
- Plans events that occur weekly.

- 1-3 years exp installing, maintaining & configuring various operating systems.
- Works on client issues directly and indirectly.
- Handles routine maintenance including, but not limited to patch management, security management, hot fixes, reboots, and remote admin in a WAN environment.
- 2-5 years Sun Solaris and Windows Systems admin required. AIX, Linux Red Hat, Unix.
- Both positions require someone who is able to "roll with the changes" and juggle priorities while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Can work independently, learns quickly and is a team player.
- Excellent communication skills.
