Director of Linux Engineering and Production

 

TimeSys is seeking a Director of Linux Engineering and Production to
manage the creation and delivery of TimeSys LinuxLink  -- a web-based
resource for Embedded Linux developers organized around key processors.
A LinuxLink subscription provides access to Embedded Linux support for a
processor, including processor and board support, pre-built toolchains,
packages, and reference designs, as well as (command-line) development
tools to build applications and custom Linux platforms. 

 

TimeSys(r) Corporation is the leading provider of Linux Customization
Solutions for the embedded device market. TimeSys empowers developers to
create commercial-grade, custom Linux platforms that meet the unique
feature, footprint and hardware requirements of their embedded devices.
TimeSys delivers its capabilities throughout the hosted TimeSys Network.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

*	Manage a team of Linux engineers responsible for integrating,
testing, and releasing open-source Linux components and create tested
and validated embedded linux BSPs and reference distributions for
specific reference boards. 
*	Manage the building, validation, and release of toolchains and
packages to the LinuxLink repository tracking upstream Linux components
and ensuring that packages and toolchains are maintained and regularly
updated to incorporate significant new features and/or bug-fixes.   
*	Manage the bug-tracking system for TimeSys LinuxLink repository
components, and ensure timely fixes of bugs and/or cooperation with
upstream Linux community to fix bugs in upstream Linux components. 
*	Work closely with Product Management to maintain a pipeline of
LinuxLink updates and deliver them on a regular and continuous basis
with high quality. 
*	Establish processes and procedures to manage the delivery and
production of LinuxLink updates with high quality and predictability. 
*	Work with TimeSys Product Management to communicate updates to
the TimeSys Developer Exchange community. 
*	Work with Semiconductor vendors on creation and maintenance of
processor-specific LinuxLinks incorporating Linux support (typically
BSPs, but also toolchains, etc.) developed by the vendor for their
chips.
*	Work with TimeSys Technology and Development team responsible
for developing a Linux build and test tools and infrastructure to
communicate requirements to facilitate a factory-like LinuxLink
production system.  
*	Other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Requirements:

*	Strong prior development background in Linux development,
including kernel development, and building of toolchains and packages. 
*	Excellent understanding of open-source Linux development
community and its development processes and culture. 
*	A high-degree of comfort in working with electronic
communication channels (e.g., mailing lists, IRC, web-based
documentation management using technologies such as wiki, etc.), and
maintaining openness and transparency. 
*	A passion for Embedded Linux and a strong desire and interest in
making Embedded Linux successful.
*	Excellent problem-solving skills and initiative. 
*	Excellent understanding of Systems programming.
*	Exceptional productivity and versatility.
*	Excellent written and oral communication skills.
*	Solid understanding of GNU development tools.
*	Solid understanding of Linux distribution development including
package management systems (RPM, Debian, etc.)
*	Strong familiarity and understanding of embedded development
issues. (cross-compilation, remote debugging, footprint constraints,
real-time, etc.)
*	Previous experience as a project leader for a large Linux
open-source project is strongly desired. 
*	Demonstrated engagement with open-source Linux kernel community
and personal relationships with core kernel developers is strongly
desired. 
*	Bachelor's degree in CS, EE, or equivalent experience.  Master's
degree preferred.
