Tony,

I understand your concerns, and that is why I posted the message. I happen
to know a member personally and I talk to him on an almost daily basis. The
difference here is I took the initiative to post finally on the board to get
discussion started. I am including you or I wouldn't have posted at all.
To answer more directly, the group will be run by people who are actually
looking to run it. Hence my idea of, if you're not interested in planning,
don't show up in the first hour. I believe it's not wrong for me to discuss
ideas with people outside of the message boards. I won't lie, I want a
certain direction for our group, but I like democracy as well. What I did
was bounce and idea of my friend, he discussed it with someone he new, and
woila, now I posted to the board. I even discussed the ideas for the group
with my girlfriend, would you like a transcript of that transaction as well.
Also Tony, by my posting I am asking you to be part of it, so come to the
planning meeting, discuss planning issues, and you too have a say in what
the future holds. What I'm trying to do is give people who don't care about
planning or setting up when the next meetings will be an option out.
Finally, I was the first to post about the issue, at no point were you
stopped from saying anything, what I meant was that nobody else seemed to be
talking about this, I was just the first to put a message out, hence the my
statement about being quite. I hope that I have answered all of question
and concerns with good answers.

Well I have to say Bill that I read your last post with both amazement and
disappointment.

First of all I should say that I mostly agree with what you posted.

But I have to ask this question and use your own words

"a group is only as good as what is put into it."

That being said how is it that this discussion took place off the message
boards instead of in it?

I don't know how many people took part in this off group discussion but I
can say this. I WAS NOT ASKED TO BE PART OF IT.and I guess it bothers me
that already the group has established a pecking order that does not include
everyone. Now here we are just a few days away from the meeting and it
sounds like to me the agenda has already been set. And that it is just a
formality to ask if there is any other input to make people who were not
included in this discussion feel good.

I will only speak for myself here when I say I have been a memeber of
computer groups before. And I have to say that the biggest killer of this
or any other group is to make people feel like they are outsiders. Now I
know I had to be late for the first two meetings but I did attend both. So
I would think that I have demonstrated that I am interested in getting this
group going. Yet I was not included in this off list discussion. Could you
tell me why? Personally I would like to know upfront if this group is going
to be run by a select few people. You make the statement that the Erie list
had been very quiet. Well I guess it would not have been if you would have
had this discussion within the list.

Again I have been at both meetings of this group. I think I have
demonstrated that I would like to be a part of making this group work. But
I have to tell you that right now I feel very dejected about this turn of
events. If my input at this point means anything then let me make this
suggestion for discussion. At some point there is going to have to be a
discussion made about who is going to run the show. And I guess I would
like to know that everyone is going to be made to feel welcome and that
nobody for any reason is going to be left out of the loop. For me
personally if I am not going to be included in this process then I would
like to know up front. That way I won't make an ass of myself trying to
participate where I'm not wanted or needed.

Thank You

Tony
