Did you see this:
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/sound-setup.html

According to /boot/defaults/loader.conf, you should be able to add:
snd_sb16_load="YES"
to /boot/loader.conf to get the KLD for sound loaded for your setup.
