[wplug-bsd] FreeBSD 5.1-CURRENT + nVidia driver problem

That usually comes down to what hardware XFree86 supports out of the
box. At home I have a GeForce 4 and a Samsung 950p monitor. Even the
XFree86 in Fedora Beta 3 did not know the settings for my monitor. I
had a nice headache inducing refresh flicker on first boot, and only
after hand tweaking my XF86Config did I get that straightened out.
Strange being that I never had that problem with FreeBSD 4.8, FreeBSD
5.0, Redhat 9, Gentoo, SuSE, etc.

The recommended method in FreeBSD is to skip over the XFree86
configuration when installing the OS. Sometimes the configuration will
go horribly wrong and lock up the machine or otherwise prevent you from
completing the install. What is recommended is to log in as root after
the first boot and run /stand/sysinstall. From there you can
reconfigure the machine as you like, install additional packages, etc.

I don't know about anyone else but I always seem to have problems
getting X to
work.

I wind up having to hand edit XF86Config.
