I have gone through the OpenStreetMap data and found about 30
people who are local and have had recent activity.
Several years ago, we set up a mailing list on the suggestion of a
member who was planning to be very active in OpenStreetMap
<http://www.wplug.org/mailman/listinfo/pitt-osm>. Shortly after,
he took a job outside the country and nobody really continued the
effort.
I note that my suggestion, of mapping walking trails in city
parks, is probably not viable - they seem to be well mapped
already. <http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=14/40.4420/-79.9200>
But we can try to come up with something else to work on.

So I can contact the people I've identified, but what should I
tell them? Ask them to join the mailing list? Or try to gauge
their interest in holding an event by trading individual messages?
