[wplug-board] Next Steps

As a result of the discussions we've had over the last little while,
I've sent out the announcement of the officer slate, and the incoming
WPLUG Board of Directors is now "officially" seated. I've updated the
mailing lists on the server; hopefully all incoming will receive it.
This mailing list is restricted so that only members of the board can
send to it (if you have any other addresses you want to send to other
than your "official" address of record, let me know, and I'll add it),
but it is archived on the server and the archives are available to the
public - this mailing list is part of the "official record" (as it were)
of the Board's activities.

We need to schedule a board meeting at some point after the holiday, to
execute the transition checklist
(http://www.wplug.org/wiki/WPLUGBoard/BoardTransitionChecklist). If we
go by the schedule we kept over the last year, we'd meet on January 1st
(first Tuesday of the month of January), though of course that doesn't
make a lot of sense. I'd suggest either meeting on Thursday, January
3rd, or else doing a meeting between Christmas and New Years sometime
(I'm fine with that, but I don't know what people's holiday plans are
and who is around during that time). Let me know what you all think.

The most pressing issue we have right now (that probably can't wait
until we can schedule a Board meeting) is that we need to arrange a date
and agenda for the January GUM. The CRW will be presenting their report
and a proposal for a ByLaws amendment, and we need to get that out to
people so they can review it ahead of time. Plus, we need to announce a
technical program - there's been some discussion about doing lightning
talks again, or doing an Open Space-format event, and either way people
should be aware in advance (so if they want to present, it gives them
time to prepare). Or if we know someone who'd want to do a more
involved technical presentation (beyond what a "lightning talk" would
be), we should start arranging that. Thoughts for the technical
program? In any case, we need to announce a date and program *soon*, so
potential attendees can plan their own schedules.

I would suggest January 12th for the January GUM (second Saturday of the
month - basically the same schedule as we've been doing) - unless
someone knows a reason that date might be bad? Terry, you're still
chair of the Events Committee (at least until the first meeting of the
new Board, after we talk about how we might want to "re-swizzle"
committee assignments), so you can approve this on your own - and can
also make the necessary arrangements with WSCC to get the room. After
this one, if you need to hand this responsibility off to someone else,
we can make that happen at our first Board meeting.
