[wplug-board] Are installfests obsolete?

Pat,

Is the concept of an Installfest obosolete? That is an interesting
question. Last year at a couple of our Installfest we garnered
attendance of quite a few people. I don't recall any specifics but, may
be around 10 to 15 people attended.

I imagine that there will always be the uninitiated, who are basically
computer illiterate and require help. Are these the people we want to
target? Our former Member at Large thought so. However, we find most
of our members are interested in having speakers active in FOSS or
related area. We could do more of that. Now as years go by and the
literacy rate gets higher and higher, these types of users will have
much less of a problem installing a distro. The issue for them might be
the right distro. It is getting easier and easier to try without
hassle. So should we target those out there who want to try Linux, but
need some handholding? There are plenty of people out there who are
phobic about computers (both my brothers). Older folks who are
technically challenged. Those folks arn't interested. Do we go back to
our roots? Anyway, Pat good food for thought. lets keep it up.
