Huh, I've had it set up to work just fine in Gmail for a long while
for secretary at wplug.org (and other email identities).  Just go to the
Gear symbol (aka settings) -> Accounts and Import -> Send mail as .
After you set it up, it sends you an email to verify you indeed have
access to that account and then all is well.  It seems they added a
"send as alias" field now which can be disabled depending on your own
personal use case of the account.

When you want to send a mail from the wplug.org address, just pick the
proper email address from the From dropdown upon message composition.
