"Flying Linux" Talk Abstract:
We all know that "Linux is better than Windows." Few intelligent
people would board a fly-by-wire airplane that was controlled by
Microsoft Windows. So how about Linux? When your life is at stake,
your attitudes change considerably. Better than Windows, yes -- but
better enough? This talk will look at what it takes to make software
truly mission-critical and man-rated. We'll go back to the earliest
fly-by-wire systems -- Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo -- and look at such
diverse (but critical!) issues as compartmentalization, trojans and
terrorism, auditing and accountability, bugs and boundary conditions,
distributed authoring, and revision control. At the end of this talk,
what you thought might be an easy answer will be seen to be not so
easy.

SCHEDULE
* Doors will open at 1pm to NSH 1507
* 1pm Ice cream served in NSH 1507
* 1:30pm A discussion of who SAGE is along with some plugs for some upcoming
SAGE events in NSH 1305
* 2pm "Flying Linux" talk in NSH 1305
* 3:30ish Q&A and socializing in NSH 1305
* 4:30 tear-down in NSH 1507 and 1305
* 5pm adjournment

Please try to arrive by 2pm since the talk is in around the corner
in 1305. Just in case, Evelyn Chao will greet latecomers and usher
them to 1305.

See you there!

Beth Lynn
