Hello,

Western PA Linux Users Group will be hosting a tutorial featuring Linux 
Kernel Configuration. It will be held on this Saturday December 11, 2004 
from 10am to 3pm at Carnegie Mellon University, Newell Simon Hall 1507.
This meeting is free and open to the general public.

Speaker: Rick Farina and Ted Rodgers

Topic:
Kernel Tutorial including brief history of the kernel and why you would
want to compile your own. After showing reasons why to configure and
compile your own kernel a complete walk-through will be shown including
various different methods of configuring.  If interested in following
along, please feel free to bring your own computer and be sure to download
kernel sources for 2.6.9 from www.kernel.org (as these are the sources 
used for the presentation). Be sure that you have at least ncurses 
installed, and if you would like to use the X configuration options you 
will require either GTK and Tcl/Tk or QT libraries installed.

Bringing your own computer is encouraged but not required. Please be sure 
to bring your own monitor, keyboard, mouse, power cables, etc. Note that 
this is *not a lan party* therefore we will not be providing an Internet 
connection.

Notice:
During the lunch break we will be allowing any interested parties to join
the Bylaws Committee and/or the Nominations/Elections Committee. These 
committees will be meeting *very briefly* in order to schedule their next 
business meetings respectively. If you are interested but you can not 
attend on Saturday please send mail to bethlynn at wplug.org
