Greetings!

This coming Saturday (March 9, 2002), the Western Pennsylvania Linux
Users Group will be hosting an installfest in Carnegie Mellon
University's Newel-Simon Hall, room 1507. The meeting will run from
10am until 5pm. It is open to anyone interested in hanging out with
Linux geeks, installing Linux and helping others do the same.

Evan DiBiase and Zach Paine will be running a tutorial install of Debian
(http://www.debian.org). If you are interested in installing Debian on
your machine and having some assistance this is for you! You can follow
along as Evan and Zach install Debian on a demo machine and ask
questions along the way. If you want to participate in this tutorial
install, please try to either make yourself some boot floppies for a
netinstall
(http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/ch-install-methods.en.html)
or an actual copy of debian on cd. We will have a couple to provide.
Please RSVP to Evan if you are interested in participating
(edibiase at mac.com).

Here are some things to know before coming to an installfest:

* Bring a power strip (to make sure that we have enough to go around.
* Bring some Cat5 network cable so you can get on the network and
internet to do network installs.
* Label things with your name if possible
* Backup anything on your system you don't want to lose
* If you currently run Windows, defragment your hard drive
* Come prepared with some basic knowledge of your system
* Bring $5 dollars for pizza. More if you're going to want something
from the vending machines or enter in one of the raffles.
* Bring your favorite linux distribution on cd. This is not a
requirement but in order to make sure that there will be enough cd's to
go around it is very helpful for people to bring some.

There are directions available in the left-hand sidebar of www.wplug.org.

See you there!
