This coming Saturday, July 14, 2001, the Western Pennsylvania Linux Users
Group will be hosting a installfest for anyone interested. It will be held
at Carnegie Mellon University's Wean Hall, Room # 4623. The install-fest
will run from 10am-5pm.

According to the jargon file (http://www.jargon.org):

installfest [Linux community since c.1998] Common portmanteau
word for "installation festival"; Linux user groups frequently run
these. Computer users are invited to bring their machines to have Linux
installed on their machines. The idea is to get them painlessly over
the biggest hump in migrating to Linux, which is initially installing
and configuring it for the user's machine.

While this is accurate, here is a better definition from zman (Zach Paine):

installfest [whooping good time since c.1998] Newbies may come and receive
help installing Linux on their machines. Experienced users can come to help
newbies, talk to other Linux users, or just eat some pizza. Everyone is
encouraged to bring 5 dollars + drink money to pay for lunch.

Here are some things that make it easier to install linux on a machine:
a cdrom drive
a network card
a floppy drive
hard drive space

In addition you should back up any data you are worried about losing.

Due to a security system recently installed at CMU, it will be necessary to
call the meeting room and have someone open the door. The telephone number
for the room is 412-268-8743. You can call from campus phone to have the
door open, or call ahead of time and give an estimated time of arrival, and
we'll have someone there to open the door.

Maps and directions can be found on the meetings page on wplug's website
(http://www.wplug.org/meetings)

See you there,

ps. Ok, Linus Torvalds did not actually sign the letter..
