Minutes[edit]

The regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the Western Pennsylvania Linux Users Group was held on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at 6:22 PM, at the Eat 'n Park Restaurant in Squirrel Hill, the regular presiding officer being in the chair and the Secretary being present. The minutes of the October 1, 2010 meeting were approved as read.

The Chair reported on her proposal for the meeting schedule for the upcoming year, which was discussed later.

The Vice-Chair reported that since taking over answering the info@wplug.org address, only one legitimate message has been received so far. This message reported on the death of member Bob Turley.

The Secretary reported that there are currently 24 members.

The Treasurer reported that as of the end of October, the balance in the checking account was $797.42. The November statement had not yet been received.

The Director-at-Large suggested using the Dropbox service for storing WPLUG records.

The Program Committee reported on possible speakers. Johnny Q works for Goodwill performing refurbishment of and installation of Ubuntu on donated computers. Jim Harris volunteered to follow up and contact him. Ed Hart works for data center and network operator ASPstation. In education, Greg Kesden at Carnegie Mellon University and Chris Belcher at Community College of Allegheny County are involved in Linux-related courses.

Beth Lynn Eicher moved to reduce the number of General User Meetings and Installfests and add a new type of event called a "table topics" discussion. This would be a weeknight meeting with open discussion on a pre-announced subject, led by a facilitator. The proposed schedule for 2011 is:

January 8th - General User Meeting
 February - Table Topics
 March - Installfest
 April - General User Meeting
 May - Table Topics
 June - Installfest
 July - General User Meeting
 August - Picnic
 September - Software Freedom Day
October - General User Meeting (nominations)
November - General User Meeting (election)
 December - Installfest

After debate and amendment, the motion was adopted.

Beth Lynn Eicher moved to schedule the next board meeting for January 4, 2011 at 6:00 PM at the Te Cafe in Squirrel Hill. The motion was adopted.

The meeting adjourned at 8:22 PM.
