Minutes

The regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the Western Pennsylvania Linux Users Group was held on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at 6:26 PM, at Crazy Mocha in Squirrel Hill, the regular presiding officer being in the chair and the Secretary being present. The minutes of the June 7, 2011 and June 28, 2011 meetings were approved as read.

The Chair reported that she is relocating and will be able to have only limited involvement in WPLUG activities for the remainder of this term. She also reported that the presentation that was scheduled for August 31 has been cancelled.

The Vice-Chair reported that he is working on finalizing job descriptions for the chairmen of the Internet Committee and Wilkins School Networking Committee. Jim Harris volunteered to help with this effort. The Vice-Chair also reported that he has printed WPLUG business cards and distributed them at the meeting. In addition, he noted that curtains have been installed in the auditorium of the Wilkins School Community Center which may help the acoustics of the room.

The Secretary reported that there are currently 26 members.

The Treasurer reported that the balance in the checking account was $685.67. The refreshment fund contains $35.12. Checks have been purchased for the First Commonwealth account.

The Program Committee reported that no response has been received from Steve Kondik for a CyanogenMod presentation. Jon "maddog" Hall will be speaking at an event in Fairmont, West Virginia on September 22. Nicholas Schembri has been lined up to talk about MySQL replication at the October General User Meeting, and Don Vosburg to talk about SUSE in November. It was suggested that it may be possible to arrange an on-site visit at ASPstation's data center in late October. The committee reported that Pittsburgh Public Market in the Strip District has been secured as a venue for Software Freedom Day.

The Wilkins School Networking Committee reported that there has been no recent activity to complete the wired installation; Terry Golightly will attempt to arrange a date with David Kraus to finish off the remaining work.

Terry Golightly stated that a company called Skybot is interested in presenting on their software. It was suggested that this might be a suitable subject for the January or February General User Meetings, and additionally that we may wish to have SNAPgh co-host the presentation.

The meeting adjourned at 7:34 PM.
